Banaue Rice Terraces
Also known as Payo, Banaue Rice Terraces in Philippines are around 2000 years ancient. These old terraces are carved in Ifugao Mountains by the olden indigenous people of this area. Filipinos refer to them as the Eighth wonder of the world. It is largely believed that these patterns in mountains were carved by hands rather than any equipment. If any equipment was involved it was very minimal. It covers an area of about 4000 square miles and is 5000 ft. above sea level. About Banaue Rice Terraces, it is said that if we put them end to end they would cover half of the world.
These amazing trees belong to the genus, Adansonia. It has eight different species in it, six of which are native to Madagascar. The remaining two are native to Africa and Australia respectively. One species of these trees is also found in Arabian Peninsula. Boabab is the common name of these trees among many others. The biggest and the famous of these eight species is Grandidier’s Baobab. This is found in the island of Madagascar but is now an endangered species owing to the land conditions there.
Petra
Petra, the lost city of Lahore, the archeological ancient wonder dates back to 312 BC. This is a whole historical city in Jordan which is famous for its rock architecture and water systems. Petra is a famous tourist destination in Jordan and a main attraction. The old city was discovered in 1812 by a Swiss explorer. Since 1985, Petra has been a part of UNESCO World Heritage Sites. According to Smithsonian Magazine, Petra is a place worth seeing before you die.
Valley of Love
This ancient valley is one of the lost wonders of the earth. Valley of love is a mile wide and high. Many controversies revolves revolve around it. It is believed that the valley remained hidden from the eyes of world for many centuries and was built by a mysterious race that now lives in a remote area of Ireland. This valley is more than 3000 years older than the pyramids of Egypt. The only intact structure in this valley referred as ‘Memorial of joy’ is awe inspiring. This fantastic stone structure has an equally flabbergasting interior which is fully functional to this day.
The Lighthouse of Alexandria
A tower built somewhere in between 280 and 247 BC known more popularly as The Lighthouse of Alexandria is one of the rare wonders of the wonders. Being ancient, it has gained mush importance in all the years and continues to do the same. For many centuries, it remained the tallest structure on earth which is man-made. Its height is around 450 ft.
The Mausoleum at Halicarnassus
The Mausoleum at Halicarnassus is more commonly known as Tomb of Mausolus. Built around 350 BC in what is now known as Bodrum, Turkey, this was dedicated to Mausolus. The architecture and design of tomb was made by Greek architects. Its height is 45m and is adorned with sculptural reliefs on all the four sides.
Blue Holes
You must have come across these images before and even if you haven’t this is something really amazing. Known as Blue holes, these underwater sinkholes or caves are actually vertical caves in many coastal regions. Among the famous Blue Holes are the one found in the Great Barrier Reef and the other in the Red Sea. The deepest Blue Hole in the world is 663 ft. deep and is known as Dean’s Blue Hole.
2. Fly Geyser
The Fly Geyser of Black Rock Desert is really something spectacular. Black Rock Desert is an arid desert in the Great Basin. The Fly Geyser is also known among people as Fly Ranch Geyser. It is a small geothermal geyser that resembles a small mountain. It is owned by Todd Jaksick who has placed a fence around this wonderful natural treat. However, just to have a closer look, people do not consider any fence and jump over it. It’s not a public site as Todd has denied every organization who tried to purchase it
Sailing Stones
Sailing stones is basically a geological phenomenon rather any magical one. These are also known as sliding rocks and moving rocks. In many places around Death Valley, rocks are seen moving in long tracks without any animal’s or human’s intervention. These are still under scientists’ considerations who are trying to find out the force behind their movements. The amazing thing is that they don’t just move in long straight tracks but change their directions often. It is surely a sight to watch.
